I also agree with Susiegee and mmm, although I tend to get going in March for tomatoes, peppers, and chillies that are going to be raised in the polytunnel. The only things I'd sow indoors before then are sweet pea, onions, and perhaps some winter lettuce. Outdoors there's peas and broad beans.

It was snowing this morning. Just right for not planting anything. Mind I remember planting onion sets last year in a sleet storm on March 4th. They grew find.
The ground is solid and I have no heated greenhouse. So I'm growing patience at the moment.

Re: What are you sowing right now?
I would start off toms and chillies earlier indoors but I am cheating and buying in toms as I can't go on holiday with millions of little seedlings for someone else to look after, water and turn 5 times a day! But I might just sow a few toms in May out of interest to see if they will catch up with the bought ones, and I'll be definitely doing the making new plants from the side shoots of the toms as it really works and is so easy (and cheap!).
Off to get my spuds tomorrow as the garden centre where I have a fidelity card always give us some freebies.
I'm planning of trying quite a few new veg this year and not *gasp
* growing any runner beans at all. And only about 5 parsnips!

Re: What are you sowing right now?
Well, the reason I am starting early this year is because
a) I have an empty polytunnel in desperate need to be filled as the days start getting longer.
b) I have a sunny windowledge for the first time to start things off on.
c) We have a short growing season up here, and if I am to have any chance with anything I need to plant earlier... last year my aubergines and peppers didn't flower and most of my tomatoes never ripened.
Root crops and tatties can wait but I would really like a home grown pepper this year
I am also building a few hot beds in the Polytunnel to keep things out of danger of frost.

Re: What are you sowing right now?
I just couldn't wait. I have sown 4 beetroot seeds, 4 quinoa seeds, 4 runner beans, 12 lettuces, 3 aubergines, 4 of each types of chilli, 3 sweet peppers, and 6 tomatoes.
I know the beets, quinoa and runner beans are way too early but I was too excited about spring coming not to start just a few off.
They're all sitting in little seed trays on the south window side of the kitchen table. I drilled some holes in the lid of a jam jar and have been using it as a sprinkly watering jar.
Oh and I have planted some ginger in a little pot and put it by the window in the only room in the house with a storage heater.
Woop woop! Spring must be springing!

It's snowing again here and I don't feel that I will ever sow anything at this rate.

Re: What are you sowing right now?
Im gonna plant lots of things succesionaly so that I can hopefully spread out the harvest. Allthough things might depend how ontop of digging i am. Not gonna start anying off for a couple of weeks yet though. Somthing along the lines of
MID FEB
fill in gaps amongst autumn onions with spare sets
start chitting 1st early spuds
Sow braodbeans under glass
Early March
1st leeks under glass
1st peas under glass
start chitting 2nd early spuds
more braod beans
Late march
brussels under glass
more peas
summer cabbage under glass
parsnip under glass
1st ealys in ground
chit maincrop spuds
Early april
corn under glass
more peas
2nd early spuds in ground
winter cabbage under glass
Late april
more peas
french beans under glass
carrots in ground
purple broccoli under glass
maincrop spuds in ground
ealry may
caugette + squash under glass
french beans in ground
more peas
broccoli
LAte maincrop spuds
late may
runner beans
cauliflower
more peas
more runner beans

The last of the Peas!
Thats my rough plan but think im going to strugle for space under glass. Might have to be inventive with clingfilm and hazzel rods!

Re: What are you sowing right now?
Today in the polytunnel i've sewn spinach, peas and carrots and covered two beds ready for peas to be sewn outside.
In pots and cells I've sewn my onions and some leek seeds and my sweet peppers.
I already have some chilli and tomato seeds already germinated which were sewn third week of January, I will sew my main batch of tomato seeds later this month.
It's too early for me to be sewing anything else until March.

I couldn't wait either and my cauliflower, beetroot and turnip seeds are all popping their little leaves up on a sunny bedroom window sill.

Re: What are you sowing right now?
I meant to sow cabbage family and leeks last month. but the snow put me back.
I like to do the cabbage family as early as possible as then I have usually harvested before the caterpillar season begins in earnest.

Sorry.
