We just put out squash seedlings ( they are almost 2 foot tall!) into type planters this weekend, fingers crossed they don't die from the move outside.

Oh my word, mine (planted out some time ago) are not just 2' tall they are 20 foot wide- no I didn't leave enough room for them....again....poor beetroot are now swamped and they are heading for the celeriac rapidly

I've not only not left enoguh room...again....but planted too many squash.....again. What shall I do with 17 vegetable spaghetti that are ready NOW along with 2 marrows and a handful of courgettes? :?

Please start a thread next year in April saying no one on earth needs 6 spaghetti plants plus 6 courgettes plants for any reason whatsoever- just to remind me

Best thing to do Peggy Sue is to go round with your spade and just chop off all the growth that's going further than you would like.
Same goes for non-bush type marrows, it does the plants absolutely no harm at all.
That way you can contain it to it's allotted space and make it concentrate on ripening it's fruit instead of growth.

Ah so it's not a bad thing to nip the ends then? I was in two minds, one person said they did but my very experienced friend said she didn't. Good news I think- Thanks Odsox

You know when you said this I didn't have the heart, I sort of picked off a few ends of runners and thought seems shame.
Went away for the weekend after all that rain & then sun, got back and reached for the spade

Just had to let you know how right you are and I'm sure you already know it
