hi sorry to hear about dh,but as for moving hows this for something to think about?a couple i was introduced to before christmas got here by swopping their house on a council estate near liverpool which they`d bought off the council for a small cottage with enough land to put chickens and grow their own stuff, not a palace :king: but now very homely, the couple they swopped with got fed up of the good life and wanted to get back to the north of England, perhaps an ad in the area you want to be?see what turns up,or wait till the sun shines,it will eventually and see what options you have, :sunny:

Thanks so much every one for your support, you are all so great.
I do try to look on the positive side, and if the worst happened and we lost our house, I can even see positive sides to this.

However, OH has been on straight the phone and internet since he found out, looking for another job, bless him.

Dear Helsbels,

I was an NQT so long ago that we were called probationers. (Sounds like a young offender doesn't it?) However, despite the crap pay and struggle my lady and I stayed together, brought up 3 children, and, while the middle one was at University and the youngest still at school I got made redundant! (Small school, spending cuts, who's on top of scale?) Shock! Horror! What to do?

Since that time I've been working on supply when we need cash and have lots more time for ishness and all the other things that make life worth while! (If you go searching for a needle in a haystack you just might find a willing farmers' daughter there instead!)

Love and Peace
Jim

Helsbells, I have tried a few times to reply to your post (the original one, and your update) but it's been one of those where I try so hard to write something and then decide it doesn't say what I want it to and cancel my post. There have been times in the past when I have felt trapped, and when we suffered redundancies in the recessions of the early 90s, but every time I try to describe my experiences it comes out sounding really scary. I don't seem to be able to find a way to show that although it was hard back then, things work out for the best in the end, and if we hadn't gone through the difficulties back then, we wouldn't be living a better and happier life now. I'm sorry I can't find the right words, but I want you to know I'm thinking of you and wish you the best of luck. :hugish:

Hi Hels,

I smiled when I read your post, the day I went back to work (5th Jan) I came in and decided I wasn't going to do anything!. I was in a right mood. I spent most of the day on the internet....looking for small holdings and woodland!.

Which depressed me further cos they were too expensive.

We made the descision to tighten the belt further and try and pay off the mortgage ASAP, a. so that we can do something we want to, b. incase I get made redundent, which is possible in the current climate.

Of course the good intentions soon go out the window when we've had a bad day (like last night when the OH came through the door with the words get your coat on we're off to the pub!. I didn't argue  )

I just wish we'd decided to try and pay off the mortgage 5 years ago but thats hindsight.

With MOH it's always a rollercoaster of restlessness, depending on how crap work and the weather is. We make a descision like that we wont go on holiday (again for the third year), then when the weathers crap it's "lets go to Italy!", then next day it's "No your right it's too expensive and we need to pay the mortgage off"
It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli
