It's silly to put on an event and not make a point of letting as many people as possible aware of it. Guaranteed failure I would say! I bet they don't forget you should there be a next time though...
It must be a French village thing about telling you every silly thing going on (like when they decide to plant some sort of commemorative tree etc) but not tell you about the highlights of the village year, ie a vide grenier (no wonder no one was there, it wasn't advertised) or an art exh¡bition in the local chapel (ditto). You obviously don't get to become a French mayor by having too much up top methinks!
