I always make wishy-washy resolutions that I can't really measure, and so give no real sense of achievement. So this year it's two simple ones:

1. Graduate
2. Write to two friends who I haven't seen in years.

now that seems reasonable, with a whole year ahead!

Happy New Year to everyone, I hope it's full of love and happiness for all!

My main one is to 'enrich my friendship group' i.e. make more effort with the ones who matter and let go of those stagnant friendships that you seem to cling onto out of politeness! Oh and always be willing to make new friends too of course. And happily, I checked my emails this morning and had a message from an old friend who is visiting this weekend and wanted to meet up!

My other one is to be more organised (in everything), but I worked on this last year too and did fairly well so it's ongoing really.

simple

chop more wood
when its warm enough for it not to be a hand freezing job!

The other is to get back to basics - in all manner of ways, the first part of that is the house, we have doubled the size of our family last year and we appear to be living under assorted piles of 'stuff' ever since, so get sorted, get rid, and don't get any more - the girls won't be having anything else until easter when they will have a small gift, and it will be the Smallest's 1st birthday.

Get back to the plot - grow more spend less on food.

Hubby (as the only breadwinner) has decided to do more work (!i know!) but in the sense of less wage slave work and more work towards our own benefit - he has wisely discovered that the more he does at home the less he needs 'waged' work to pay for things that we can do ourselves. He's even talking about making it official so that he only drives tankers part time. Scary thought, but would be fantastic.

I'm really interested in the buy nothing for a year effort. What perameters apply? Okay, food, bills, essentials like if your boots drop to bits replace them etc. But what about other things, I'm struggling to find a for example here but you know what I mean, the things that you could easily justify buying but when it comes down to the nitty gritty you could live without it?

Lorna,

Our postie told us that chopping your own wood keeps you warm thrice....
1 - When chopping to logs & stacking
2 - When splitting & moving
3 - When burning

As for the hand freeze..... I use those disposable vinyl gloves under my gardening gloves - my hands stay nice & warm inside the vinyl & as they're not getting dirty, can be used time & again but they stay protected by my gardening gloves.
Last week, I was out chopping & splitting with my leggings on under my jeans, 3 pairs of socks, gloves - and stripped to a t-shirt in temperatures of 1 degree  Yeah, hubby thought I was mad too........
The more people I meet, the more I like my garden

Hmm I know that look too!

I look particularly mad when DD2 is tucked up like a michelin man in a snow suit under a blanket in her pram watching me! Then again I think other people aren't used to seeing young mums doing physical things, I am often asked if my old man is too tight to fork out for central heating, and they think I'm doubly mad when I say I like it that way!
