I've asked around my female acquaintance, and a good number of them have noticed this evocative aroma.

I'm almost speechless, (it takes a lot). Could you describe the smell, me being innocent of nose and all....
Um, challenging one that. Something like wallpaper paste with hormones added? Flour and water mixed together with a large tablespoon of pheromones? I think the tree is a fairly common variety as it's in Japan too, and the smell is projected for several blocks in all directions.

I'd love to know what tree you are talking about! Can you find out the name?

Millymollymandy, I don't have time now to do a comprehensive search, but if you Google 'sperm tree', you'll quickly find a number of candidates, and some rather entertaining prose commentary on the subject. I can't really remember much about what the tree looks like.

It's an ornamental pear! From the Urban Dictionary:

sperm tree
Ornamental Pear Tree (Pyrus calleryana Chanticleer), smells like spunk when in full bloom. See "semen tree" also.

"God, I wish my neighbors hadn't planted that sperm tree next to our fence. Now my backyard smells like furniture from a whorehouse."
