Well, here in Caithness, we've had an outstanding summer. Just enough rain to keep the plants happy with it being even a bit dry here and there. Plenty of sunshine and reasonable warmth for this far north. Can't complain up here at all this year.

I forgot the holidays are at different times in Scotland. Here in Yorkshire the schools go back beginning of September if that gives anyone something to look forward to. I'm looking forward to itina wrote:Didn't quite work out that way! The last two days - more rain than ever; today reasonably dry - thank goodness, as we were working with the sheep all day, and handling wet sheep is not much fun... But it's drizzling again now.Rosendula wrote:It's because it's the summer holidays. Once the kids are back at school we'll have glorious weather.

Re: Rain and more rain
I have a garden full of elms - we lose one or two tiny ones each year to Dutch Elm disease but the way they sucker we get many more than that back (not that I want any more!).
Yes I heard about the Horse Chestnut problem a year or so back but ours are doing fine at the moment and this is the first year that the bigger one flowered and has some conkers on it now!
As for dropping leaves - my woodland has looked like autumn since early July with all the leaves dropping and yellowing leaves! It's called summer round these parts!
