Truth to tell, I don't drink beer either. I brew it for the Other Half, but don't imbibe. Cider, particularly scrumpy, is my thing and it's very eco-friendly as you don't need to use any energy at all to make it. Well, apart from operating the press by hand and carrying buckets and barrels around.

I have considered alternative methods to boiling water for the absolutely necessary caffeine to get me going in the morning.
But have failed miserably.


We have solar powered 12 volt lighting in the house and have tried the immersion unit things for a mug - but it just takes too long!

So now reconciled to boiling a camping kettle (max 800W draw) in the morning that makes 3 mugs of coffee without reboiling, and then that gets put away and any other coffees come from the various kettles sat on the Rayburn or in the evening on the woodburner (although hot chocolate then).

I have to have my caffeine to start the day and my OH agrees as I am not a morning person.
