I too find it hard to believe you can work in an office and not get the obligatory 1 hour for lunch. I understand things are different in factories etc, but an OFFICE?????

You should move to France and get the 35 hour week with 2 hours for lunch; though that's as long as you don't work in the corporate world in Paris, because they've never heard of the 35 hour week or 2 hours for lunch either!

I keep threatening to move to France for that exact reason. Ah, a society that values taking time to eat proper food...

My husband works for Rolls Royce and only gets half an hour. Some days he is there from 7.15 to 6pm (he is a manager so sometimes has to work late) He works in the office as opposed to the shop floor.

my OH choses to only have 1/2 hour lunch and then he comes home earlier.

In my line of work long hours are expected. As for the working time directive, forget it, it's pretty standard to have to sign a waiver when you start a job. The pay does make up for it though.

Fee, have you thought about making a point and eating your lunch on the floor? You could take a picnic rug and let everyone fall over you.

It's amazing how many companies still stick to the minimum legal requirements as to breaks... But I'm sure they can't make you stay at your desk during your breaks? Isn't there a legal provision that they have to provide a place that's safe and clean and all the rest of it for your breaks? Or at least let you get out for a walk!

I'm lucky - officially I'm on flexi time, which would give me the option to have up to two hours lunch. Since I work in a farm environment, I generally have what all the other farm workers have: one hour lunch, and a break in the morning plus one in the afternoon. These breaks sometimes tend to be quite long, as my boss and I get chatting about work concerns - and then they turn into meetings... And since I live at work (tied cottage), I go home and have "proper" lunch. And I must say, I really appreciate having this opportunity.

I can take my breaks away from the desk - i have half an hour which i split into 2 15 minute breaks.

I take one before we get busy, and one after. I tend to eat at the desk because i can take my time eating then - if were to eat in my breaks it would be a 'bolt it down and get moving' problem.

I work for Fedex - i'm an export agent. I'm one of the ones that goes through the paperwork to decide whether you're exporting temporarily or not. I spend all ym day at the computer (apart from the 15 min breaks...and the odd wee!).

Its a boring job, and i dont plan to be here forever!!

I don't know what other companies do - i've always worked in pubs, but this one sticks to the working directives - half an hour for every 8 hours of work. I think it stinks - half an hour is not enough. I also think it shuld be paid too, but that's a different matter!

today i have tuna tortillas (i didn't make them) and they are yummy! I'm also trying to drink more liquids - today i have half a litre of fruit juice and half a litre of squash. I have a small bladder, so its going to take some gettig used to!! At least i get a few more wee breaks...

My hubby is meant to legally get 45mins... but on days like today he couldn't have a lunch break due to the fact that if he didnt stick at the job he was given the train wouldnt have gone out on time, a service would have been cancelled, First would have been fined and byebye promotion prospects... he did manage to pilfer a muffin from a train buffet but I'd hardly call that lunch. I made sure that dinner was as healthy as can be.
