Is it me.....

Too many people don't put their location in their profile, I get confused  especially with it being an international forum is their any chance we can add it in the how to join bit?

I have found myself looking through people previous posts to try to figure out where people are :?

Hi Annpan
Yes, I often check someone's location before replying to check that what I say is relevant. It is useful to know - even the country would help.

Cheers

Annpan - I hate to say it but for a lot of our international members, they probably have no clue whatsoever where Lanarkshire is! Perhaps you should put Scotland in your location as well.

But generally I do agree with what you said!

Point taken

But it makes more sense to others in Scotland where , for such a small country we can have very different weather in the Highlands or central Lowlands, Aberdeenshire or Lochaber.

Does mine still say fairyland?
Just checking...

It would help, but some people do appreciate the option to stay totally anonymous if they want to be. If we started to make people tell us their location then this right would go. Are you suggesting that it stays up to the user to put their location (or not) but we suggest that they do tell us?

Yes Andy absolutley... if someone chooses to remain totally anonymus that is fine by me. It is more a matter of discusing for example... that you have just harvested tomatoes.. I think "oh crap mine are only 3 inches tall    " then I realise that the person is in Tanzania. (this didn't actually happen btw it is just an example)

It affects
What you grow
When you plant/ harvest
Grants/ subsidies/ tax
Language (I mean English in UK/NZ/USA can have different meanings for words)
Weather patterns
pests and diseases

I think it should be optional but advised

I quite agree that members have the right to be anonymous. They must just bear in mind that they may get replies that aren't relevant in their area.

Cheers

I suppose there's not a lot we can do about it but if someone asks a question, say on growing something specific, it would be perfectly valid to ask them where they are located.

I do find that most people have given their location on this forum though - and if they haven't they may well have mentioned where they are in their 'welcome' posting (if they made one).

I put my complete location as such so that people will understand if I put in a post about what I am growing or doing at this time of year. I think I will edit it to also include my growing climate that maybe helpful to. Especially if anyone from another country is planning a trip out here

That's really helpful!

Does anyone want me to put in what exact department of Brittany I am in?   Obviously I do on French forums but as there aren't so many 'Frenchies' here I thought just the region would do!

As for climate, right now it is crap!

Pretty much Red - I often look up Yeovil (somerset) because that's 1/2 hr away from my mum and it is similar - a few degrees warmer in summer and several degrees colder in winter.
