To many margo's ?

Post: # 40030Post jondy »

When I found this site I was confused by the number of people with the same avatar thinking them all to be the same person. I do now realise that you start with margo and probably upgrade to the other person after a number of posts. Obviously it works for you but I think individual names/avatars might show a lively interest from many people when the site is visited by a new browser. I often have a double take to see who this particular margo is, it might be me.

The easiest way to do it is to find a picture you like save it onto your computer and then resize it.
I use Microsoft expression (free to downlaod) or Turbo photo (can download a trial of this) to resize.
Parameters for avatar - its width can be no greater than 200 pixels, the height no greater than 200 pixels, and the file size no more than 78 KB.

Then go into Profile at the top of the SSish page and and upload your avatar, which is down the very bottom of the profile page.

another really good free imaging programme is Irfan View - it's incredibly fast, and fairly easy to use - if you're "beginner level", "Picasa" from Google is a very capable programme. You just download it, fire it up, and it catalogues every image on your hard drive, neatly arranged with thumbnails - then there's really simple image processing included too - another good freebie! :cooldude:
If you want the open source rival for photoshop, "The Gimp" is superb! :cooldude:
(you'd never guess I dislike spending money on software!)

Amateurs encouraged - very keen prices and friendly helpful service!

Irfanview is an excellent program for Windows, though it's not really a fully fledged image editor - more of a viewer with some editing features. The Gimp, I discover, is included as standard on Linux, though I haven't looked at it yet.

Regarding uploading an avatar, there was a problem (may be fixed now) that some people had, including me, when uploading directly from their own computer. The way round this was to upload the image to a website, or a photo hosting site like photobucket.com, and then transfer it to this forum from there - just stick the URL of the pic in the appropriate box on your Profile page.

I didn't have any problems uploading straight from my computer and that was only a few days ago.

I think the pics, Margo, Tom etc. are really old fashioned looking...

They make us look like we are a group of really old people stuck in the seventies, with lousy dress sense, and no access to hairdressers or sunshine. [Hush now, Muddy... :geek: I'm noooo finished.. ]

Sish is modern, refreshing and full of funky individualism and free thinking that is maybe not really reflected in 'enmasse' Margo's and Tom's?
