Well it only lasted about two hours - lovely big flakes and all disappeared in an instant. Yesterday we sat in the garden for a couple of hours sunning ourselves and cooling the fresh-baked bread.

This weather just gets more bizarre.

Yesterday, torrential rain and wind from the east

Today is like summer!

I gardened Saturday, went out on Sunday and Monday only to be rained off ever since. Quack.

Snow in the forecast today - and it's not even Easter or April Fool's day!

It was snowing in the Cairngorms as we traveled home today. Fortunately it wasn't settling on the road but the mountains looked like they'd had a good thick coat. It was, as usual, a stunning part of the journey.

We've had snow showers for two days and we are not up in the hills. Most disorderly for April and the ground is sodden after a wet week.

I thought perhaps last weekend's weather might be the last cold snap, but it seems not.
I'm away next week and my plants have to be left to themselves, doors and windows left open in the greenhouses and doors wide open in the tunnels, otherwise a few minutes of midday sunshine would send temperatures up to the mid forties.

So guess what the weather is forecast to do next week ?

Erm, I think Turku is in the green bit which may be warmer than NW Sutherland which looks to be in the turquoise area! I'd better pack something a little warmer than I'd planned and get out the thermals for my OH who's staying at home, I think. :shaking:

Well the weather forecast seems to be right - it's only March according to the weather but end of April on the calendar. Oh dear. Anyone up for a bit of gardening? Nope I thought not till the end of the week when things might get better.

Weather strikes again. Monday made me really hopeful for going out and seeing what I could forage (still need to pick nettles, they've been so late this year) but sure enough today (my day off) and it's only fit for ducks

No weather at all here today, thick fog but very warm and sweat making.
Forecast is good from tomorrow onwards though.

We've had a haar followed by glorious sunshine for the last few days but OH tells me it's all down hill from here. Oh well, that was summer.

Well this is getting ridiculous, today it's 13 degrees and 95% humidity outside, i.e. cold(ish) northerly breeze and thick fog/drizzle.
And ( ) the forecast is not very promising either.

However, I've been thinking about the state of the world, as you do, and I've come to the conclusion that personally I should maybe not complain too much. This cool moist weather is apparently caused by a cold pool of water in mid-Atlantic because of ice melt, while the rest of the world is getting above average temperatures and the chance of flood causing rain storms.
So I think maybe I should accept what our mainly benign weather gives us.

I said "personally" in the paragraph above because as most of you know, I grow most of my vegetables under cover, with the only exception being my maincrop peas and potatoes, and they both love this cooler weather.
So while it's nasty outside, my tomatoes for instance are in my conservatory where it's 24c due to solar radiation (even on thick cloudy days) and 60% humidity (because I switched the dehumidifier on for half an hour)

All in all I would much rather have today's weather than 90+ degrees for weeks on end.

I agree, although I do wish we hadn't had to light the boiler today because it's so flipping cold!

It seems to be shaping up to a summer like last year so we've had to do some drastic rethinking (as mentioned elsewhere). I'm thinking OJ's suggestion of grow lights might end up being necessary - even with our long summer days here. It was quite dark for the last two nights because the cloud cover is so thick.
