Growing against adversity competition
As I was looking up at my packets of seeds that I have been meaning to plant for ages and are now out of date I thought why not give some of them a go at the wrong time and see what happens.
I though that we could turn this into a competition and see who can grow stuff with totally the wrong conditions.
Stuff that is supposed to be planted in early spring could be planted now, stuff that thrives on clay soil in sandy soil. - it would be a good experiment to see if we could ignore the centuries of wisdom and still get some kind of crop.
If we all put in a gift as entry then we could have a few catagories for prize giving.
for example - grown in the most weeds
Least amount of watering
Best out of season
can you think of any more?
I will put in one of our bags and a signed photo of me and Dave (to scare away the rats) and a few of the seeds that I am collecting off my plants - probally radish, broad bean etc.
So who is in???

First we sow the seeds, nature grows the seeds then we eat the seeds. Neil Pye

what shall we say then. must be an out of date or opened for at least a season packet of seeds. We must all plant out in September and then it is up to us for whatever other conditions we put on to win. Such as not watering in dry weather, overwatering, never feeding, walking on, talking to but only as abuse and so on.
cambert in the post, oooh well nice all soggy what about some pickled eggs m3?

I am sure that they will think of some conditions that we have not thought of - not watering in dry weather might help redress the balance.Millymollymandy wrote:Also don't let any of those Aussies or Kiwis enter this competition!!
