Perplexing tomatoes

Post: # 275197Post diggernotdreamer »

I have some Irish Gardeners Delight growing. Grown them for several year now and save my own seed, usually grow them in a block and save the ones in the middle. This year, something a bit odd is going on. They were growing as norma, produced flower trusses and fruit and then they just stopped growing any taller, so I let some sideshoots grow a bit to see what was going on and they have produced flowers and fruit and stopped, it is almost as if they have gone 'bush'. They look like Gardeners Delight tomatoes, won't know exactly until they ripen, what could cause this, I wondered if it was some kind of response to the weather, like the carrots, or could they have crossed with something else? I had a few strange things last year, all my sweetcorn fasciated and turned into some kind of frankencorn, I am really puzzled, can anyone throw any light on this for me

There's saving seed, and saving seed....I'm all for it,but I only do it for a year or so,then buy fresh, the seed companies DO know their business(having said that I've had more than a few of their disasters...!)

I'd wait and see what they're like - you may have developed the best tomato ever!

And if it works would you send me a few seeds - the wind round here means I can't grow toms outside. Your Irish variety might fit the bill.
