Hi from Oxfordshire

Post: # 26483Post hmk »

Hi,

I have had chickens for 2 years- started with 2, now up to 6! Best thing I've done and I wish I'd got them years ago 8) They're not nearly so difficult as I'd thought and my 3 children (7, 5 and 2 years) love collecting the eggs. The last 4 hens were chosen for egg colour as well as production so they can identify the 'owner' of each egg! Even DH likes them now!

We moved to this village last year, so garden very much a work in progress. Typical semi-size garden so we're also top of the waiting list for an allotment....hopefully next year  But have managed to cram in quite a lot of veg in the meantime!

Hi Hazel, and welcome!

Your village has allotments - that's great! Nothing like that around here, I'm afraid. Although, my garden really is big enough for me as a single person... Big enough for the hens that I haven't got yet, too!

Hi Hazel. I love Oxfordshire, I go to the Cropredy festival near Banbury every year. This year we'll need to get chicken sitters whilst we're gone. Our kids love the chickens, too. They've been pestering me for a puppy but chickens are just as much fun to watch and you don't have to take them for walks every day. And of course you get eggs. And their poo can go on the compost heap. And the vets bills aren't nearly as high. And you can eat them when you get fed up of seeing them. Maybe we should do a new "101 uses" - "101 reasons why chickens are better than puppies"
