Cushiest Job You Ever Had
I'm going to admit to two:
- Working in a Shell petrol station on Hampton road, Bristol. I spent the enitre summer doing the Friday & Saturday evening shifts. They were so unpopular that they paid double time, but I still got to finish at 10pm so I could go out. The boss let me take two packets of fags per shift on top of this and on three occaisons I got picked up by female customers. It was like living in a Lads' mag.
- Working as a driver for a photographer who'd lost his licence through drink driving. He was heavily in demand for upmarket estate agents photographic work. This was another summer job. It was pretty undemanding. He had this bloody great Mercedes and he'd sleep in the back while I drove, so I didn't even have to talk to him. We'd tour the country going to these moulding country piles. He'd spend two or three hours taking his piccies while I dozed. I got paid £85 per week, which for a student in 1985 was a small fortune.

Cushiest? The two occasions when I was on 'gardening leave' for six months. They didn't want me, but they didn't want anyone else to have me either. :D

Re: Cushiest Job You Ever Had
I also had a driving job for someone that had lost their licence.
I got paid what I considered an awful lot for driving round a little bit but mainly doing what I wanted. Turned out he wanted more of a slave but one that didn't have to do too much. I cleaned the house a little, walked the dogs, sat on the office playing on the computer. I was there to look pretty.
I also had to spend a lot of time in the pub having drinks bought for me. I accompanied him on shoots during the shooting season and went to parties that came up.
It of course meant I didn't have much else in my life, my home, work and social life were all one and the same (and not fulfilling) but that suited me at the time. It also didn't last long and when I decided I was not happy with his advances I was made redundant.
Good for a bit of a rebellion - I spent the year drinking, hanging out with men with no morals. Lots of fun for a previously absolute goodie-two-shoes but plenty of life lessons learned along the way.

La Castration du Maize. Basically,4 weeks in the foothills of the Pyrenees every July cutting the tassels off sweetcorn with a sickle (pre F1 hybrid).
£100 a week(a lot in the mid 70's) free accom, free wine, and females from all across Europe. Then off to Corfu to spend the cash camping on the beach for another month.......happy days..........

I must be doing something wrong. The cushiest job I've ever had was working on the tills at Safeway when I was in the 6th form. If I was lucky I got the basket only till as it was so busy the time went really fast. This was in the 80's so we didn't have conveyor belts or bar codes. We had to remember the department for each product and had to know what every single item of fruit and vegetable was. It was cushy because there was no responsibility and the vast majority of customers were really nice and friendly.

This sounds great! If I didn't have children, this would be my plan - except for the females!!!oldjerry wrote:La Castration du Maize. Basically,4 weeks in the foothills of the Pyrenees every July cutting the tassels off sweetcorn with a sickle (pre F1 hybrid).

P&P , you couldn't do it now, with or without kids, They grow female only varieties now(i think), they banned free camping on the beaches in Corfu yonks ago,and anyhow nowadays one European female is more than I can handle!

My cushiest job is the one I have now. I get to telecommute, which means working in my jammies if I feel like it. My job is to coach virtual call center trainees during their first 2 weeks of calls, and all I do is answer their questions in a chat room. It doesn't pay all that much, but I love it.

It would be a toss-up between being an Air Force flying instructor, which was about the most fun you can legally have at someone else's expense, and what I do now, which is being a part-time systems analyst. I work two days a week from home, and there isn't really that much for me to do. I also have to work one Saturday a month, but it's usually only for half an hour, and I get paid a two hour minimum for it.

Re: Cushiest Job You Ever Had
The practice is alive and well around here as there is still a need to create new F1 hybrid seeds. It's popular with school children aged 14/15 since French law is really hot on under 16s working, with a few jobs excepted - cutting the tops off the "female" part of the hybids before the male flowers have formed is one of these exceptions.oldjerry wrote:P&P , you couldn't do it now, with or without kids, They grow female only varieties now(i think), they banned free camping on the beaches in Corfu yonks ago,and anyhow nowadays one European female is more than I can handle!

Shows how the memory can let you down ,I thought it was the males we were 'castrating', there definetly weren't any U16s either(he said hastily)...Makes you think though,......wonder how much they pay these days?........could I still hack it?........how much is a Commando today?
