It's all exactly the same here in France, the notaires hang on to your money after buying a house for about 6 months..... EDF read your meter then the next time over estimate by about 3 times the amount you used..... my husband's corporate clients went from paying after 30 days to 3 months which is bad enough but now they've decided to pay after ....... 6 months. :angryfire:

As for my UK bank, well just reading on the statement in front of me that they will generously allow me a £250 overdraft but over that and I'll owe them 15.90%, whilst they generously give me about 0.25% interest for my credit. Nuff said. :banghead:

Name and shame time. Npower still owe us over £500. (Since July 20th).

OH realised they'd not paid it into our account so contacted them only to be informed that they couldn't do that because having been informed the house had been sold they closed the account and deleted all our details - complete with our dosh in their account!

Surely this must be illegal? :dontknow:

They're lying.

Their accounting software would have thrown warnings up left, right and centre had they tried to do that. In fact, their accounting software shouldn't allow them to do that. An account with an outstanding balance is just about sacrosanct.

Our dearly-beloved tax authorities take a very dim view of people trying to hide assets by deleting accounts. They have heard of an audit trail, I'm sure, even though they also know how to bull**it.

Mike

EDIT: And, come to think of it, if they've deleted all of your details how the hell do they know that the account was closed because you'd sold the property?

That just has to be wrong! Personally I would phone back and ask for a supervisor and keep going up the chain until you find someone who talks sense.

I had the same problem yesterday with our insurance company when I phoned to ask for some sort of overlap insurance as we will be owning two houses for a few weeks. I was told I would have to take out an additional new policy and pay a cancellation fee once it wasn't needed, then transfer the original policy to the new house. A phone call to another department and I was then told the original policy has a three month overlap clause and the original advisor would be "sent for retraining". I think I learned the moral from that one, never take their word for it if you think they are wrong!

Good luck with your problem, sometimes I'm sure these telephone advisors make it up as they go along. They can't possibly have deleted the information so quickly as they will need it for auditing purposes.
Growing old is much better then the alternative!

If they have done that, then they have committed theft/fraud. Threaten them.

It would appear my previous post was wrong - only slightly. They haven't closed the full account - only deleted the bank details. Which doesn't fundamentally alter the fact that they're sitting on our cash with no apparent action/intent to repay it!

Deffo threaten them - just suggest you will be handing the matter over to a solicitor asap. Usually they will cough up then.
