I'm not sure I can add much to the wise advice that's already been given, but...

Sympathy is a short step from pity, and if you can find your way to thinking, "Poor XX, who has such as pathetic little life that they feel the need to send me these stupid, malicious letters (or whatever it is)," that will be much less destructive to your peace of mind than feeling angry.
