Making knitting patterns!
Making knitting patterns!
Hi guys, just wondering does anybody know how to design ur own knitting patterns? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine who has fought breast cancer 4 times and has just been diagnosed with cancer again has set up a breast cancer charity and I thought it would be a lovely idea if I could come up with a pattern of her logo for dishcloths that I could then sell for the charity.
I knit dishclothes all the time but have no idea how to go about designing a pattern. Any ideas? Xx

second try
forum not playing for me this evening
I would just draw it out onto squared paper and knit a swatch, then you can decide if you need to add or subtract rows or stitches to make the design the shape you need
If you draw it onto tracing paper first you can transfer the design onto the squared paper with pin pricks and then colour in or mark out the squares that will produce the design

Re: Making knitting patterns!
Depends whther you want to make the motif with different colours or stitches, although colouring it on graph paper would work for both I suppose.
This looks good, though I've not tried it

Re: Making knitting patterns!
I would try it in stocking stitch with a moss stitch border, with the motif in reverse stocking stitch. Perhaps 4 border stitches all round, c/o about 40, knit about 50-60 rows (including border) depending on how square you want it, then when you're happy with the shape graph out the design for the middle stocking stitch bit, but remember your graph needs to look stretched as it will squash up when it's actually knitted.
Also just wanted to share this one I found - isn't it nice? I am going googling for dishcloth cotton, someone stop me pls
.
Lovely idea BTW and best wishes to your friend!

Hi Veinreyes, why not pop onto the intros bit and tell us more about yourself?
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
