Our spring garden - photos

Post: # 228234Post chuck_n_grace »

Hi,
Grace and I have done a lot of work in our front and back yards over the past 12 months. I wanted to share some photos.

Two IBC water tanks (530 gallon capacity) in foreground and greenhouse in background. You can see the gutter spout feeding right tank.
Image

My daughter posing next to a bed of onion, Brandywine tomatoes, and carrots. White cups are used to block 'cut worms' and to capture more water.
Image

Front of greenhouse. PVC pipe used to wrap up front of the greenhouse to regulate summer heat and to help harden the plants.
Image

Our Romaine and Red Romaine lettuce we've been eating for the past month.
Image

Corn. I had extra potatoes and place them between some of the stocks. I admit, this was probably as stupid idea for a couple of reasons...so I'm calling this an experiment. =)
Image

Broccoli, daughter, cabbage, and cauliflower.
Image

Compost bins in the background. Heating up really good now with garden grass clippings. Wonder beans and Bush beans, spinach, cucumbers (in distance), and Beefsteak tomatoes in background on right side.
Image

This is where we sit to enjoy the outdoors. Need to control mosquitoes now. Those are grapes over the arbor and miscellaneous patio plants in pots.Image

Another patio shot. I like the Confederate Jasmine growing up the trellis on the back of the house. These plants smell beautiful.
Image

Edible landscaping. Strawberries in the foreground. Raspberry and Blueberry plants in background. The red blooms are an Azalea bush.
Image

Another view of edible landscaping.
Image

Getting bold. We've moved 8 grape plants to the sunny (when sun is shining) front yard. This has received a lot of attention from neighbors and many walkers.

Regards,
Chuck

Lovely to see all your pics and what a productive area is it/will be! Love the azalea, makes me think of the golf that's on at the moment (not that I watch it, but my husband does and the one thing I notice is all the azaleas round the course!).

That front garden is a nice big blank canvas.

Sickeningly organised. I feel I have a long way to go. I only have two raised beds at the moment but am working on two more. A greenhouse or polytunnel might also be on the cards later this year.
Has anyone seen the plot, I seem to have lost mine?

Hi,
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. We're very excited about the results. I kinda kick myself for not staring this over 20 years ago...but we were busy raising 5 kids.

Organized? We did spend a few hours talking about our plans over the past year.

Finding time to sit? It's amazing how much time one can free buy ignoring the house, family members, health...

Regards,
Chuck

It's been 18 days since I posted these pics. We've enjoyed a good balance of rain and sun shine. Here are three more pics. The growth rate has been absolutely amazing.

Wow, thats amazing. Your garden looks lovely.

We are having real problems here in London. There has been one brief shower in the whole of April, so my garden is like dust and things are only half the height they should be. Mind you I haven't seen a single slug so far.. so that's a bonus

Like Keaniebean in London, down here in Sussex we have no slugs or snails - touch wood - and the hostas are looking beautiful. pbf.
