My in-laws celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Friday - down in Lancashire. They decided it was too far for us all to travel down there so they booked 4 rooms for us all in a hotel in Inverness, last night, and drove up to meet us. They took us all out for a slap up meal, lots of booze, and then a big breakfast this morning. We then parted company - they've gone off for a few days holiday and we came home.
It was a fabulous family occasion, made all the better by us all being together on Mothers Day - when we still lived in Manchester we all got together for a big meal. It's one of the very few things I've missed since leaving.
The tear-jerker was discovering that not only had FIL planned all of this by himself but had been saving up for a year to make it happen!

Sounds like you have lovely in-laws Maggie. With families scattered far and wide it's nice to be able to have a family get together once in a while. Parents are precious and we should cherish them.
