Thanks so much everyone, for all your good wishes. Yes, we do feel like splashing out a little bit - but I don't want to revert to former ways. I have always wanted to live more thriftily so that we could make our money work for us rather than the other way around. Its freedom I really want - the more 'stuff' you want and the bigger a lifestyle you feel you must maintain, the more tied you are to the grindstone. Luckily I had already made quite a few changes already, so was better equipped to deal with the change in income than I might have been, but I so much appreciated all the support and sheer practical information I got here. It meant I didn't feel alone.
