Greetings from Launceston, Tasmania

Well, this is my second round trying to post this, as my first attempt was apparently cut short by some sort of board dysfunction.

I am a transplant, having been born and raised in California, and when I married my husband 9an Aussie born and raised) I moved to live with him on TAS. I've been here 7 months now, and am very interested in trying to be more self sufficient, despite living in a suburb without much space to grow things. Shortly after I moved here, we built a long raised bed next to the house and planted tomatoes and peppers. i've since picked 32 pounds (roughly 16 kilos) of tomatoes, and one pepper (with 20 more on the way), and have bottled chutney and tomato sauce in an effort to keep on top of the glut of produce. I've picked three kilos of wild rose hips, from a buch i'm very lucky to have growing in my back yard, and have made cordial and jam from the tart red fruits.

I grow my own herbs (and plan to extend the variety), do almost all my cooking from scratch, and am playing with home made cheese and beverage (right now, in the form of mead) experiments. We are in autumn right now (and at this moment it's too soggy to go outside, lol) so I'll be winding down the growing a bit until next year, when I can have more warm weather for growing.

I recently finished reading the self sufficientish bible, and I hope to to enjoy this forum. :)

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I'm not sure how enviable the life of an immigrant can be, but I don't regret the move to Oz to live with my man. :) Well, I do miss family and friends back home, but that's why I love the internet so much. XD

Thanks for the welcome everyone. i'm still exploring this site, so I'm not sure if there's a "journaling crowd" just yet, but I imagine I'll find somewhere to post about my garden adventures. :) The most recent news is my effort to get an allotment, so I'll let you know how that goes. :)
