Confessions

Post: # 224932Post Susie »

Having been very thrifty and careful for a reasonable length of time, today I failed utterly and bought one of these jackets. (This is not a photograph of me although that is very like the vacant expression I have when I am listening to the Archers. All the voices are the same! ).

In my head I think I am a leading light of the Haight in 1967. In real life (incomprehensibly!) this is not the case. In my defence vintage clothes hold their value well and if I don't end up wearing it enough I will be able to sell it on. That's my story and I'm sticking to it  .

Has anyone else blown the budget on something ridiculous that they might want to tell me about to make me feel better?

Please? :flower:

Hmm, how about a pair of fluorescent, glow-in-the-dark, cockerel annoying, driver frightening, yellow gloves. In my defence, I did need a new pair of work gloves and didn't quite know what I was getting. But I definitely blew the budget on something ridiculous.

I buy a rather bright pair of gloves...

But then, as you said in your blog Stonehead, it could have been worse.......pink fluorescent gloves!

They should issue all cyclists here with those gloves and a matching hat because they go cycling about at night with no lights on, wearing all black!

Nice jacket! It's perfectly OK to treat yourself every now and then, especially to something good that's going to both last and hold its value. I've bought all sorts of ridiculous things - I have a bespoke sheepskin flying jacket that's so warm I can only wear on the one or two coldest days of the year (and even then I can only wear a T-shirt under it), and a pair of ridiculously expensive heavy-duty Filson oiled canvas trousers that I bought a mere couple of months before quitting smoking and putting on a couple of inches with the result that they no longer fit (I'm keeping them as motivation to shed a few pounds). I initially started home brewing to save money, until it took over my life - I've spent hundreds of pounds on lab equipment over the last few months, and I'm not finished yet...

And yet I reckon I'm still doing OK, compared to all the ridiculous crap that most people spend their money on. No petrol, no car insurance, no lottery tickets, no trips to Disneyland, no fashionable items that will fall apart even before they've gone out of style...
Cheers

after having fixed the sofas and dryer, jim treated us both to a new coffee table. it was £87 from ikea, but was i made from PROPER wood. Oak to be exact.

I then spent £5 on an antique pallete knife I don't intend to actually use. I bought it because it's beautiful to me.

and i love that jacket.

Lovely jacket Susie, but I hope you aren't planning to wear it with just a pair of shorts (that Simon Cowell would be proud of), you'll catch your death!!

Don't worry about it - I spend at least £50 a month on plants for a garden that isn't even mine... :flower:

Lovely jacket Susie, is it 80's? I love the girl's denim combo underneath!!

We just blew the budget and decorated our front room. Very cheaply and with the excuse that apart from going for walks we'll be spending a lot of time at home so might as well make it nice! Still, I hate blowing the budget!

That's because they are thieving gits out for a quick burglary.

Well having bought the jacket and suffered the terrible guilt, it didn't actually arrive until today, so the guilt got worse cumulatively. Then the postman bought it with another huge parcel (quilt wadding and fabric I had to buy for my mum's new quilt, so not even my money!) and as he gave it to me (struggling under the bulk) he shouted out 'look at all these things you've been buying, love! You've been flexing that internet trigger finger again, haven't you!' and had a good laugh. So then I felt even worse and couldn't even sneak it past my other half and pretend I had been thrifty and it was the window cleaner at the door or something.

Anyway now it is here it fits fab and I love it. So I shall wear it shamelessly starting asap and no more guilt ;-).

(I think it's original 60s - it looks like it's never been worn. Woot!).

Nice one, Susie.

And I wore my glowing gloves at the abattoir today. I'd like to think the man on lairage, the vet, the slaughtermen and the four farmers waiting behind me were grinning because they were enormously impressed by the latest in swineherd fashion...
