I noticed yesterday at one stage 23 guests online - and was wondering whether SSish had been in the papers again? Or, Shirley, maybe you had a picture of your back on the BBC after all?

I think we have over 600 members - wanted to check the memberlist just now and got the message "not authorized" - what's going on? A lot of these have never posted, though.

our stats have shot up, not really sure why, not been in the papers for a while. I guess a lot of people are growing stuff and looking on line for help. I think that on top of that we have become a pretty established site and things like the 30 articles in june have meant people are returning and staying about for a while, the slug article is proving very popular and that has a direct link to the forum.

The memberlist is not authorised for anyone but admin for a little bit just to see if it cuts down on spam members joining. Myself and Dave have wasted hours just deleting members. It seem like I have to weed the memberlist as well.

That's ok - now that I know why I couldn't get into the member list... Yes, the spammers are a bloody nuisance. But short of demanding of every new member to swear on the bible of self sufficiency not to spam, there's not much you can do to prevent them joining up...

I think it is actually a computer program that is joining up all the spam members, anyway we have 357 members who have posted at least once and 633 members altogther. If I had left the spam members on we would have over 3000 easily.

I decided to take off the email varification when people joined as I was forever getting emails off people who did not recieve it and so had difficulty joining. I would like to keep it a totally open forum but the dreaded spam has put a stop for that, if only all spamers could be sued or at least iritated for the rest of their lives.
