The beeb and cars

Post: # 225042Post Green Aura »

I've just received a phone call from the BBC!

Apologies to the other mods about not clearing this first but time's a bit pressing so hopefully they won't mind too much

Anyway the gist of the conversation was that they'd found my contact details via Ish and are looking for people who are wanting to give up their car (for at least a week). I explained that, given our geographic isolation, having no car wouldn't be an option for us. But then I thought someone else might be interested - it's for Scottish bods only, sorry.

Here's the email they sent so anyone interested could contact them.
Hi Maggie,

Nice to chat with you! Thanks for offering to put a note on the site.

We're looking for someone in Scotland who would be willing to give up their car for a week (or do their best!) as an experiment for the Call Kaye phone-in programme on BBC Radio Scotland, startign tomorrow if possible.

It would mean having them on the phone tomorrow in the live discussion between 08:50 and 09:45.. And then a week later checking back in with them live in the programme to tell us how it went.

The discussion topic tomorrow centres around the idea of whether our listeners could live without their car, if not, why not, or will they have to unwillingly cut down or give up car use because of petrol prices, etc.

Anyone interested please contact me ASAP today for a quick chat - 0141 422 7066, or email (then I cam call them back and save the expense of a phone call) at sarah.toom@bbc.co.uk

It should be good fun!

All the best,

Sarah
So if anyone's interested contact them soon

We did this over half term last year, its interesting to see how as a family we managed, and we did, however we are not in Scotland but still an interesting idea :flower:

Did anyone phone in? I listened to it but of course I don't know many people's real names.

I couldn't help them because, apart from trips to Inverness or further, we often go for a week without using the car anyway - so we wouldn't be giving up much

The person who they did get agreed though - I'll try to remember to listen next week to hear how she got on.

I got rid of mine four years ago and moved to a cargo trike. Most people thought it couldn't be done in a hilly, rural area in all seasons. It can. With our boys now cycling themselves, I've just sold the trike and am now looking for something utilitarian for me alone.

But I suspect the BBC doesn't want to hear from hard-core nutters like me!
