Gas bottle wood burner

Post: # 222167Post Carltonian Man »

Had an ongoing project over the past few months, making a gas bottle wood burner. Finally fired it up today.
Features included are a hot plate, pre-heated air curtain to keep the glass clean, upper air inlet for secondary burning of gasses and a deflector plate which throws heat back into the chamber whilst also directing hot gasses past the underside of the hotplate. (That’s the theories anyway..)
As it stands it weighs in at around 64kg and apart from the Pyrex lid for the window and two metres of fire rope all material used was second hand and didn’t cost anything. Some bits have been in my garage for over seventeen years and the brass used for the door hinge bushes I’ve had since 1986, even then they were scrap parts from a damaged machine (how sad am I for remembering that  ).
Anyway, it seems to work ok.

That is a truly handsom beast!

I would suggest you could make some to sell but, at minimum wage over 25 years, you'd need to charge a lotto jackpot for it!

.....And here's me who can't even get the bloody valve off the top of mine !!!....

Great job by the way.

With the air wash and extra gasses burn would this be a smokeless set up then?

Wow. That really is impressive. If you went into business you could charge premium prices. Well done!

I was aiming at it being smokeless and it does seem to work. With the door open the chimney smokes but close it and the smoke stops straight away.

I've been eyeing a couple of those gas cilinders that are gathering dust in a corner of my workplace.

Jealousy-inspiring stuff, CM. We want pics of where it's going and pics when it's there too, of course.
