Farm near Swindon

Post: # 221580Post AngeB »

Hiya

Years ago my Mum told me about this farm near Swindon where you could stay, like a holiday, but it's hostel style and you do farm jobs in return for board and food. I looked it up for the both of us but shortly after she fell ill. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Does this place still exist? I've forgotten what it's called

Seconded - I woofed for a week in a croft in the outer hebrides last year, it was fantastic.

That's brilliant, just what I was looking for, thanks guys :thumbright: I thought the place I was on about was one of a kind, my Mum came from Swindon which was why she'd heard of that place, I had no idea wwoofing existed on such a big scale. Brilliant idea. Me and OH are unsure if we can do it and return to our lives at home at this stage - we're too far away from the good life at the moment, it could be depressing. Will definitely read more into it though

Lower Shaw farm are great people and it is well worth staying there. They are friends of mine and Dave and we had the book launch for the Selfsufficientish Bible there. Everyone has meals together round a big table in the farmhouse, which is great. The accomodation is basic, akin to staying in a holiday chalet but clean and as far as I remember warm enough. Yep highly recommended and if you do go say hello from me!

Well if you do come over to Lower Shaw Farm, let us know and we'll arrange a Swindon meet. There are a few of us around here and we don't need much excuse to meet for a drink.
