A copy of what I've just posted in the TV section - probably not the right place.
(For the few of you who may not know, this is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's campaign to stop the ridiculous practice of dumping fish which don't meet European fishing regulation quotas back into the sea. 99% of them are dead or very soon to die, so it's a complete waste of perfectly good food).
Sign-ups are now over 406,000. HFW is expressing surprise, and beginning to believe that half a million is now a possibility. Half a million is a by no means ignorable number of signatories to a petition aimed at the EU. Politicians being animals of a certain mindset, they'll be forced to sit up and think.
C'mon Ishers - if you haven't already signed up, have a think about it. Just Google fishfight, and you'll drop right onto the site.

Re: Fishfight
Yes I had already signed on HFW's River Cottage website.I also watched the shows during last week and was appalled at the amount of "discard"fishermen have to get rid of because they can't being it to shore. Its a disgrace! No one is saying its ok for the oceans to be fished to oblivion, but surely dumping tonnes of dead fish back into the ocean can't be right. No way!
I was thinking though whilst watching those shows,ok the fishermen have limits they have to adhere to,I can't recall what they are,but surely it would make more sense to go out less often, and still use ALL the fish caught, rather than dump it?????
