Ice, ice and more ice

Post: # 220627Post Stonehead »

Three days of it now thanks to air temperatures just above freezing and ground temperatures well below. I have to clear tracks every day with salt and grit as my usual winter mix of wood ash and sand isn't up to the job.

More pics on my blog if anyone is interested.

Good Lord, you do go in for winter in a big way up there, don't you Stoney. :pale:
I won't tell you it's just over 15c here as I type, been out in the garden all day and just popped in for a cup of tea.
Supposed to rain tomorrow though.

I've been reading your blog and thoroughly enjoy it. Shame there aren't any boots or wellies with spikes on the sole, 'ice trecker wellies' or something (crampons?). Rotten nuisance this ice, makes life tough. It's thawed up here and we've had enough of it so fingers crossed we don't get any more.
Good luck and lets hope for some of this :sunny: .

There are lightweight ice grips that you can attach to shoes called YakTrax. I looked at some in an outdoor shop near us, but unfortunately they had none big enough to go on my wellies.

Oh my! Stoney that looks rough, positive thoughts for a safe thaw for you all

while looking for a book in amazon (damm January birthdays) i saw that they had some snow grips for boots, maybe they'll have your size? I didn't check out the price though. Poor dogs and pigs must suffer with their paws and trotters too.

Aye it's been just the same here for about a week since the snow stopped. Thankfully it's all away now and lashing with rain. On Tuesday the A7 main road south from Edinburgh was closed due to black ice all afternoon. I think there were several cars skidding off the road so the police closed a 40 mile stretch at 1pm till 4:30. I have not known that happen before - the road was black. Well, black ice!

Frosty weather to return next week too :-(

Don't salt it =(. Bad for the environment and everything made of metal (like cars).

Sand it instead! Don't try to remove it, don't fight it, just adapt ;-).
