Have I read somewhere that your good lady is in a wheelchair? If so get onto social services and get them to do an emergency repair or at the very least lend you some heaters.

Oh you poor soul, I do not envy you having no heating or hot water in this weather. We had ours out for a week last year and I had the flu too. Hope you get it resolved quicker than you expect, but for now have some ish hugs, although I doubt it will warm you up much.

Russ, I feel for you. Silly as it may sound, keep your feet up off the floor as much as possible and light a few candles. Getting your feet up certainly keeps them out of the coldest air. The candles probably don't do much about temperature, but they're so cheery they make everything feel warmer.

I feel for you too. I don't know if this would help or just cost loads of money, but, can you put the oven on and leave the door open?

Do you have an electric blanket? (Not very eco-friendly but in this situation.......).

If the A174 wasn't so bad Russ I would pop some electric heaters in the car and bring them up for you. I hope you can get sorted soon and keep yourselves warm.

We've had frozen pipes (somewhere outside and nowhere we can locate at the moment) so no water at all for two days. We have improvised with bottled water, kettles, etc but at least we have gas and electricity so we can keep warm and walk into town to eat out/use the loos etc.

Take care and make sure social services sort something for you soon :santa:

Yikes I hope you get it sorted soon Russ. :( It's really worth while everyone having alternative forms of heating, for situations like this or if there are power cuts and then the ch won't work even if it is not electric ch. We have some smelly bottled gas heaters which can be used in an emergency if we have no electric plus loads of portable electric heaters - shame I can't lend you any! I wonder if any of your neighbours have a spare electric heater you could borrow? Do you have hot water bottles? Or even those microwave bean bags for warming up aches and pains - I use them sometimes just when I am sitting here at my computer (currently 14C in this room :( ) just to keep putting my hands on to warm them up. Failing that lots of cups of tea or coffee just to put your hands round!

Graye sorry to hear about your pipes  - I complain if my kitchen and d/s bathroom cold water pipe freezes but at least we still have water in the rest of the house.
