How Are The Roads?

Post: # 217263Post spider8 »

We are wondering what the snow/ice situation is on the roads as we have a long journey to take (although it is in the balance at the moment). We have had more snow here but would like to know what the A9, M74 and M6 corridor is like please. The first part of trip is from Orkney down to Pitlochry then from there to Preston. We have been watching weather forecasts and looking at the roadside cameras and trying to decide what to do..........personally I'd rather not risk it but OH still thinks it's do-able!

Dunno honey. We've had a light dusting and a bit of hail but it's not too bad. Stonehead has just posted on FB that it's starting over there, but they usually get it much worse.

When I traveled down south last week OH kept me updated by checking out the traffic cameras http://www.bbc.co.uk/travel

Click on Scotland on the map then there's a list of cameras down the rt hand side. They're updated every 20 mins according to OH.

It was great for us - we hit a blizzard as we were approaching Ullapool and he was able to tell us it was localised and clear further on.

You should be fine. Main problem is ice at the moment so stick to the main routes. Snow forecast for tonight. Temps down to -14 tomorrow night though.
No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery

Sorry - just re-read your thread and saw you're already looking at the cameras  Duh!

Wow things have got really bad here now, blizzard conditions and abslutely freezing. Doesn't look like we will be going anywhere after all ( can't say I'm sorry, want to stay at home in the warm).
