P.E bag, beachwear and sock monkey oh my

Post: # 207738Post mrsflibble »

sophie's PE bag. i offered to buy her a ready made one, but as most people in her class have pillowcase-based-home-made affairs she wanted one. she picked the fabrics; fab cos her school uniform is red too lol! I used cord from a reel which i have had knocking about since my aunt gave me a load of her sewing stuff, the strawberries were a fat quarter handed to me by my mum and all I had to pay for was the gingham. it was £2.50 a metre, so I got half a metre and had some left over for hairbands ;) all hand sewn because my machine needs a new belt somewhere and I cant afford to get it fixed for a couple of months. school uniform is expensive!!!

scrap cotton yarn beachwear... this is basically a short sleeve tunic style jumper. made in my down-time in the week before our hols, and finished in the car between essex and wales.

finally, sock monkeys seem to be the next big thing in sewing circles, so here's my effort.

Very nice! I love the jumper as well. The sock monkey brings back memories. We had a very old one in our house that my aunt had made as a child.

Love them all, but especially the PE bag. Was the jumper knitted or crocheted? I am a crochet-er, but can't tell the difference very well because I'm not a fabulous crochet-er or anything!

Everything looks great - I especially love the sock monkey as he has real personality. Enjoy your little one's pleasure while you can - my son used to love his handknitted jumpers and homemade trousers - but won't touch them now he's turned into a great big lumbering teenager! Still, all the more time to make things for ME!!

I've done lots of hats and scarves. I did a sweater once, but the arms came out sort of, well, let's say the person I made it for did not have arms down to their toes and leave it at that.

had to stop when she was about 3 and a half, not cos she got too heavy but because she got too tall and i kept overbalancing; I'm only 4ft 8 lol.

I wish I could sew! I am so impressed by people who can and all those things in the photos are so lovely. I think learning to sew might be a project for after my wedding, I'll have some time on my hands then! Can anybody suggest a good book/website etc to start me off?

Try the selfsufficientish.com site..loads of good tips there!!
Patchwork is a good way to start sewing (in my humble opinion) it is good prctice in sewing small straight..ish lines and can get more complex as you get better! Try charity shops for sewing books there are always loads in there, so you could get a selection to start you off!
Good luck!! With the wedding too...must be soon now?? :flower:
