This made me laugh!

Post: # 208925Post Millymollymandy »

From my local French freecycle group:

Donne : body 1 mois, 3 mois, 6 mois bébé fille

Donne means give by the way

Reading the rest of the blurb I guess a body is a rompersuit type of thing but did think it was funny to be giving away not just a couple of bodies (the one and 3 months might have meant how long they'd been dead  ) but also a 6 month old baby girl.

   The french do have a funny way of using english don't they!
I heard a good one the other night whilst watching an American cop show. The scenario was that the detectives had gone to a football field to interview a couple of players. The coach came over and said to them "are you going to walk off or am I going to have to toss you off?" I guess it doesn't mean the same in the US!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

    The british words seem to change their meaning quite fast. I found a booklet for employees (my father-in-laws) dated from 1953. One of the rules referred to not "using a shafting motion" !!  I cannot recall the exact wording and still dont know what it really referred to!!

I have been teaching population to my Year 9 class. Yesterday we were examining reasons for the high rate of population growth. When I marked their books, one of them had written "people die more slowly these days" - I know what he meant but it conjured images of slow, painful deaths!

Actually maybe the child had a point, we do rather prolong death rather than extend life at times!! :(
