A Good Read

Post: # 188625Post oldfella »

Recently, I came across a new author, well new to me, and I so enjoyed his work that I thought I would recommend him to you. Unfortunately he died after writing only three novels, His name is Stieg Larson and his novel, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is the first of a trilogy.

Another author that I enjoy is Sarah Waters a young English lady and her book "Fingersmith" is a great read. I would be interested in what some of you folk would recommend.

Cheers Oldfella. I'm normally a historical fiction reader, but every now and then i do dip my toes into other areas.

Can I recommend Patrick O'Brian I first bought his books at car boots and managed to read the whole lot with the help of the library, in fact I was so impressed I went and bought them new as a thank you. I have read them several times since.
Trouble is I have found nothing else to match :(
Kind Regards

I'll check out Patrick O'Brian, pelmetman, am re-reading the Simon Scarrow 'Eagle' series at the mo. Good stuff if you like to read about Romans romping round ancient Britain.

I'm on the second book as well, pity that after the 3rd there will be no more, he was a fine writer.

Two of the best books I've read in a long time are both by Khaled Hosseini - The Kite Runner, and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Very, very moving, and a chance to see a 'human' side to Afganistan that the media, on the whole, refuse to show us.
I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

Try "Fingersmith" set in London in the early 1800s it's a great read.
