onions from seed

Post: # 172148Post Derry »

on sept 30th i harvested some seeds from an onion that had flowered, and instead of keeping them, i planted them straight away.. checked on them today and theyre coming up =D most are only 1-2cm tall, but yaaaaaay all the same.

just wondered whens the right time to move them from the seed tray [theres 2 seeds to a pot atm] because i presume the bulb will start to swell soonish?

I presume that they are autumn planting ones. If so then I usually let the root ball get to a reasonable size before transplanting out although I know lots of people who simply sow them direct.

We wait til til they are almost pot bound, then they transplant with very little recovery time- last weekend ours went out so fingers crossed no rabbit visitors this year
