Well that is 22 just on this forum, it looks like we can go ahead.

I will nip over to the shop on Tuesday and put the order in. As they come from abroad there is a bit of a waiting time for them (about 6 weeks) so it wont be an imediate purchase I am afraid. But thank you all for your interest. A big thank you to shirlz for suggesting that we set up this thread, really helped with making the descision.

How are the bags coming Andy?

I love that they'll be fairtrade and organic. Good for everyone involved.

Also to get around the paypal fee, maybe those in the UK can do a bank transfer?

Should be putting the order in on Friday, ended up being a pretty hetic weekend with mates coming down, forums to move, allotments to dig.... All good fun though.

Anyway the paypal thing, we have absorbed the cost of transactions into the price. Direct money transfer would mean me electronically giving out my bank details. Not sure how much of a good idea that is. I am looking into ways of bypassing paypal as they have had too much cash off me as it is and does anyone know about their ethics??? Anyway, the shopping page will be put up by/on Thursday (as I am not at work) and I will keep you informed, probally be paypal as that seems to be the easiest and safest option, if not the cheapest.

Cheers

A while ago comments on the UK Ebay forums (Ebay owns Paypal, IIRC) where not too complimentary. There were issues with financial safegaurds outside the home country of America - ie. the safegaurds didn't apply in the UK (or presumably elsewhere, too), and you stood to forfeit your money if the vendor defaulted, or something else went wrong, with no comeback.

But it may be that these conditions of use have been 'internationalised' by now.

andy - you could always set up a separate bank account for such things using smile or coop or other ethical banking facility.

glad you had fun at the weekend.

Yes, but you'd need to arrange a merchant (bank) account facility to take online-orders which incur set-up and handling charges. There are ways around this, software and the like, or buy into World Pay. If you choose the software route, then you are liable for any descrepancies and would need to be Data Protection compliant. It's a real bummer.
Have you thought of Nochex? A bit like paypal but slightly lower costs.
Oh yeah, and the co-op bank charge you for having less than a grand in a business account at any time, ouch! (Or you can pay them not to charge you!)

Will have a look into nochex, I do have thousands in the bank but in the red  I don't think that is what the coop wants. It is the same with the other ethical bank, tridos.
