Best (xmas,don't shoot me!) Present

Post: # 166623Post MuddyWitch »

Now I know you'll all be groaning that xmas has appeared in a thread so early, but I will explain:

I've just been reading the thread about hampers on 'Looks Like We Made It' and it set me thinking.

When I was 13 & dinos walked the Earth my folks were seriously strapped for cash. My Mum bought enough wool for a jumper, the pattern and all the tools, (knitting needles, a small pair of scissors and a darning needle for sewing up) and a pretty bag to hold it all.

She then wound all the wool around a small brooch. Every so often in the wool she popped in a sweet, a small gift (daft stuff from the 'Works' Do' crackers) but most special were the little notes of love and encouragement that she included. It made one huge ball.

I still have the jumper (though it no longer fits me) and all those little notes.

I did one each for my girls this year, thanks to being reminded of it by the hamper post. :thumbright:

That sounds absolutely brilliant Muddy. I'm going to borrow that idea, if I may. Although it might be something simpler than a jumper - my daughter tries, but is no great knitter

Please feel free to 'borrow' GA, that's why I posted it. I thought other ISHers might like to try it for their off-spring.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one thinking about Christmas.

That sounds like a fab idea. I love thoughtful gifts like that.

Aww Muddy that's really lovely - what a lovely mum you have! :hugish:
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

What a wonderful idea, so thoughtful!!

I have been think about Christmas for at least six months. Pretty sad I know, but its going to be a busy old time for us!! What with the new baby arriving, and both the girls and hubbys birthdays. We tend to make quite a few food hampers, this year I am going to try making smelies too.

Watchout with the making of smellies... I have almost knocked myself unconscious making smellies for christmas gifts... too many essential oils around makes you dizzy. Certainly not a safe state to be in with a bump or a teeny about.

What a lovely idea, now I'm going to desperately try and think of a way to convert it to a boyish one, as there is no way I'd get the two eldest knitting!!!

For those of us who obviously have loads of things (kids) on our minds it would be great to have an idea thread for pressies, I'd love to make family things this year, but just have no idea of where to start. The chutney is out as the apple tree was attacked by wasps, so we lost just about all our crop :(
