Somebody must know of some great ones! I'm talking the super easy super quick, like mint. I've had so many mint plants from just the one plant by taking cuttings that really quickly grow into strong plants. Are there any other herbs etc that you've had this good results from?

I've had good results from rosemary (and I love the stuff so that's good!) and I propagated my lavender plants from other peoples using cuttings, they were really easy and have grown well.

Most plants, except annuals - I think, will grow from stem cuttings.

Have an play with whatever you've got about. If they work you're quids in if not re-use the compost for something else. Put them somewhere protected though as they may not do much until next spring now.

Or is it just up here it's starting to feel distinctly autumnal?

Nope it certainly has that autumnal feel here in Wales too, even seen a few leaves turning on the trees and it isn't even September!
Very autumnal here as the cherry trees have been orange and dropping leaves for weeks, all the trees are now starting to drop leaves, acorns been dropping for a week, my plum trees are totally bare (always are at this time of year) - some of it is due to dryness though and if we had some proper rain they would all perk up.

My rosemary self seeds in the gravel and I don't bother with mint cuttings, I just take some of the root and away it goes! It's the right time now to take cuttings of things like lavendar and sage. I don't know whether the original question was just relating to herbs or to all plants and shrubs but there are different kinds of cuttings taken at diff times of year. I'd google!
