First Eggs

Post: # 162368Post Ron and Jean »

We picked up our ex bat girls yesterday. They were in quite good shape with no clipped beaks. Some were a bit bald especially on the neck and their nails are really long, but I expected worse. They settled into their new home and were scratching in the dirt and clucking happily within the hour. They were not too sure of the rain this morning, but ventured out when it dried up.

Our 6 hens have given us 5 eggs in their first 24 hours. Fresh eggs for breakfast this morning was great.

Life is good.......

That's great news. And chickens are such entertaining companions.

I'm still waiting for my two newbies to start laying, but the older one who was broody cut short her broodiness after I got the newbies so she is laying again. Every time I get an egg after a period of not having any I get as excited as a kiddy in a sweet shop  yet strangely enough I am so blase about the duck eggs I just groan when I see that all three have laid.
