Sophie has suspected swine flu.

Post: # 161062Post mrsflibble »

she's been prescribed tamiflu as a precaution because the drs round here are very cautious since that patient died 1/4 mile from my house at basildon hospital. the doctor said on the phone yesterday "it sounds like a viral infection, btu then so does swine flu when it begins". my mum came over with my brother so he looked after sophie while i took mum on a whistle stop tour of all the pharmacies in basildon lol!!

i had a hell of a time finding a pharmacist in the area able to supply the prescription, but she is 3 doses in and she's getting much better than she was yesterday.

we're controlling her temperature wih neurofen and paracetamol; one every 3 or so house, alternating medication.

thankfully her temperature hasn't gone above 99F, but i think thats cos i caught it early.

she has to stay indoors until next weds when she should no longer be contagious if it is swine flu.
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

well done for what you've done!
Did you really have huge problems getting tamiflu?

Ah poor thing. I do hope she recovers quickly and that the rest of you don't get it. On the plus side, it does sound as if you are immune for life once you've had it.

Take care
Zoe

oh dear, the histeria is spreading across TWO threads :( :( :(
Just checked the Beeb, and they have a whole page dedicated to it.
THEY DON'T HAVE A WHOLE THREAD DEDICATED TO HIV / AIDS DO THEY!!!!!!!!!!! :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

In Britain (as per the 6th  ) we're still talking 1 death in 1000, although in America and other countries it can get to 1 in 200, and overall 1 in 200), so I think we should all say Thank-you to the NHS.

I think we can safely say, that over the next year, we will all get it so don't worry Millims *pat on back* :hugish:

thankyou wolfsong, the voice of reason.

yes i did have problems getting the tamiflu, and would have had more problems had i not had mum and her car to help. there were only two pharmacies in basildon supplied with it, so i had to find out which they were. we headed for my nearest only to find all routes i knew blocked by diversions so i had to go home, print off a map of basildon from google (like most normal people i keep my maps where they are useful, in the flipping car.... the car was in west london with the husband). i then had to work out a rather conveluted route because none of the diversions actually went near the place i was trying to get to.

we found it eventually, i went in with the prescription and chatted to a man in the queue. the pharmacist was very nice, very helpful and eventually i got her prescription; 3 hours after picking it up.

it seems basildon was conspiring against me lol!!

she is perking up, no more temperatures although she still has the cough, some of the aches and the throat pain. she's very good at taking the capsules and school has been informed. i have arranged to go in on their training day to pick up soph's stuff because she missed the last two days of term. she missed the party too :(

she is going stir crazy being kept in our house and garden.

My concern about it isn't for me but rather for my partner. Illness means that his immune system is seriously depleted. I work in a school where there have already been confirmed cases, either students or relatives etc. I'm just worried that as I may come into contact with it, I may unwittingly bring it home and, although may not be affected myself, my partner might, which could be far more serious.

Millims, well at least you are conscient of the risk, find somewhere in advance where he can be treated properly, don't rely on a last minute dash to the GP if he could really get hit seriously. In other cases (ie normal flu) you can't plan, but the classification of H1N1 means that you will probably will get it and give it to him... Act quickly! :cooldude: :dave: :thumbright: :thumbleft:
