foiling a griil pan
Does anyone on here use foil in the grill pan to cut down on washishing up? Is it ecological do so if your foil is recycled aluminium? Or is it just wasting a resource one resource to save another?

Re: foiling a griil pan
I used to use foil in the grill pan for things like sausages to save on the washishing up
but these days I fry sausages in one of those griddley-type frying pans with only a tiny bit of oil. We buy much better quality sausages than we used to and there is much less fat in them, so that's my excuse in the health arguments. Now I only use the grill pan for toast and cheese-on-toast, that sort of thing, and the crumbs simply wipe out when the pan's cool. TBH, I've completely gone off all the healthy ways and now I fry things, use full fat everything, eat meat (shock, horror), the full whack, and I feel a lot healthier for it. That said, I can't rule out the effects of an increase in fresh air and excericise since packing in my indoor job.
Back on topic, I reckon if you wash up by hand, using foil is probably less environmentally friendly than washing the grill pan. I mean, you would be washing the other pots anyway, so it's not like it's extra. If you use a dishwasher, that's different.... and I don't know the answer, sorry.
Gosh, I've just read what I've written. Don't I ramble?

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, since we got our griddle off Freecycle we haven't used the Grill much and when I used to grill stuff the oil would either burn and smoke or fall through small holes I hadn't seen and end up i the pan anyway

Re: foiling a griil pan
I don't grill partly because the grill in my oven is worse than useless but also mainly cos French ovens don't have grill pans!
However the bottom 'drip tray' shelf gets really greasy so I keep one of those silicone baking sheets in there permanently which means a lot less elbow grease scrubbing it after cooking a roast and the dirt and fat splatters come off quite easily off the silicone sheet.

Ooh, that's a good idea. I tend not to use foil, or feel a bit angsty about it when I do. One of those silicon baking thingys could solve it.

I don't because I figure that you're washing up somehow anyway, so you can just add the grill pan. I scrape the fat off the bottom of the grill pan and either give it to the cats or put it out for the birds before I wash up. Like Rosendula, I tend to fry things on the hob more than grill. Grilling itself is the least efficient way of cooking as you are trying to force heat downwards which goes against its nature. When I'm frying, I use a non-stick frying pan and just a tiny bit of olive oil so it's quite healthy and you keep the meat juices in the sauce.

I do .. not to save on the washing up but its the best way of removing the unwanted fat and putting it in the bin. I dont want it going down the sink as it block the drains, Out home is 130 years so we treat her with car...
