Generic pressies anyone?
I've been trying not to buy cheap chinese plastic tat for my friend's kid's birthdays.
For little Ilöa's 3rd birthday tomorrow she has a ragdoll made by me out of fabric scraps (yes, I keep them for a reason lol!), two books and a wooden train whistle and it still only cost me £4 all in!!

I'll bet she has lots of fun with them and they'll last her far longer than the tat that will break in the first five minutes!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I agree, those sorts of things, especially the doll will be around long after the tat is but a faint memory

Good for you, MrsF.
I heard a terrifying statistic today: 85% of all toys bought each year for xmas are broken & sent to landfill by the end of January!
I used to really struggle when my girls were young & going to friends b/day parties.I refused to spend our hard earned cash on tat & rubbish, but it did feel a bit 'pearls before swine' to buy expensive fairtraid-type stuff.
My youngest, (now 17) was once invited to a 'McD' b/day bash. I wasn't thrilled but decided not to spoil her fun as how much harm could one trip do? She came home & was very disapointed; she'd expected the farm that McD had in the song

Yeah, I have two dolls that were knitted for me whn I was 3 and I'm 46 now. They've lasted well and if our two S's got together they'd probably have a great time playing with them.
Hugs to you and your S. I have to send mine a present soon-kids gardening gloves and toy food to go with the cooking set I sent for Easter.
Only $6 all in though, mine don't get things that are too expensive either!
