Re: Getting to know you... part 3...
It's not only Saturday night, but the kids are in bed and Mr Luvpie is out drinking with his buddies so these may be very long answers!! (well got to have something to do, there is naff all on the tv)
What nickname did you have as a kid?
Bears - my name is sarah, I used to have a dressing gown made from teddy fur and would walk around in it demanding cuddles from anyone lookign like a teddy supposedly.
What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"?
A diplomat in Russia, my family were a close to being communists as was allowed in the labour party, so I grew up in socialist circles with numerous union reps.
What do you do for work now?
A private health care company
Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking?
I suppose my parents, we grew our own food and lived a very much make do and mend lifestyle, it was meeting Rob (mrluvpie) who encouraged me to get back into this lifestyle, first husband didn't think anything was any good unless it was new and wrapped in plastic! Whereas Rob had also been brought up with growing things.
What was the first thing you ever planted?
As a kid, strawberries, as an adult, potatoes, with my kids.
What was the first food you ever caught to eat?
I've never caught anything, unless you count the pot that I dropped and it rolled down the garden
What was the first thing you ever dismantled?
The central heating system with my dad when I was about 10, what can I say I was the 3rd child, all of whom were girls, I think he deep down wanted a boy so my eldest sisters got football, I got DIY.
What is under your bed?
Far too much, all things that will come in handy some day, I just don't know when!
What is on your mouse pad?
There isn't one, the youngest son was last seen ripping bits off it and trying to eat them two days ago, it hasn't been seen since.
What scares you?
The thought of no being here for our 3 boys.
What gave you your last big belly-laugh?
Rob suffering at a family BBQ following his last very very long night out, of course my sister and I supported him through out the day, rather than mocking him relentlessly (?)
What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door?
In the evening, our apple tree and a shed, at all points through the day a washing line filled with Georges nappies.
What did you eat for tea last night?
Turkey stir fry
What charity/ies do you support?
Nothing reguarly at the moment, as things have been abit tight with me not working, however I do always buy the big issue (from the same guy when ever I see him) and I support cancer research, in the form of sponsorship, and helping to orgainise a childrens race for life.
What is your least favourite chore/job around the house?
hoovering
If you were to be banished to an island for 2 years, and could take one person with you, Who would you take and why?
I wouldn't go unless I could take my kids, but as long as they were there it would have to be rob, he makes me laugh, cry and enjoy every moment that I'm with him (except those in which I hate him, but hey we're just a normal married couple in that respect I think!)
What was the last CD that you bought?
Hawkwind, replacement cd for those which ex threw out, mainly as we are taking the kids to see them in the summer, and thought they should hear what it would be like, although I had forgotten just how bloody good they are!
What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it?
a model of a lady for putting necklaces on, it's horrible, I am going to car boot it when we get a chance.
What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)?
take things one step too far
What is your favourite drink?
white wine, or rhubarb schnapps
Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world?
there are a couple, if I still had a passport I would love to take my kids to Yosemite national park, as it was just so peaceful and lovely there, but in reality then I would have to say Escot Park in exeter, on the sunday night of Beautiful days festival, watching our boys dance to the levellers whilst having a drink and not worrying about a thing (except how to get out the car park the next morning if it's raining like the last couple of years)

the ever growing luvpie household currently contains, 4 boys, 4 chickens, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 4 fish, an empty tropical fish tank waiting new arrivals, now are we daft to look at our broody hen thinking, if we got some fertilised eggs........

What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"? - forensic pathologist (and this was long before CSI etc)
What do you do for work now? - Human Resources
Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking? - not sure. Have always tried to be reasonably 'green' but started being a bit more serious about a year ago. Can't remember what got me started - just seemed like a good idea!
[/b]
What was the first thing you ever planted? - Cornflowers
What was the first food you ever caught to eat? - Never caught anything

What gave you your last big belly-laugh? - My OH, he's a funny guy
What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door? - The door is on the side of the house, so the first thing is the wall of the neighbour's garage. If I turn to the right though, I seem my plastic greenhouse full of seedlings and my raised veg bed, which I am very proud of
What did you eat for tea last night? - A rather disappointing game pie I bought from a food festival I went to, with new potatoes and salad
What charity/ies do you support? - World Vision, Amnesty International, Surrey Wildlife Trust, RHS
What is your least favourite chore/job around the house? - Mopping floors. Or vacuuming them. Anything to do with floors generally.

What was the last CD that you bought? - Brett Dennan
What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it? - Some awful pottery wine goblets. I dropped them - it really was an accident, although I don't suppose anyone would believe me! Can't say I felt too guilt about it though.
What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)? - Nag? I think that is what OH would say. Of course, I think I am just reminding him about things he said he would do but hasn't yet.
What is your favourite drink? - A strawberry, banana and honey smoothie I used to get from a local cafe when I lived in Australia. Try as I might, I can't quite recreate it.
Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world? - A lagoon on the Sapphire Coast in SE Australia. Don't even remember what it is called. Went there a couple of years ago and decided it was heaven on earth.

Re: Getting to know you... part 3...
What nickname did you have as a kid?
Erm, can't think of a nickname. I was one of many kids who got an award at age 12 for being the most improved in the class after a year of secondary school. After that some of the kids called me 'swot', but that's as near as I got to a nickname.
What did you want to be when you were "all growed up"?
1. a car machanic - but was told "You don't want to do that. You'd never be able to get your hands clean. You want to learn to type and get yourself a nice little office job",
2. a stewardess on a cruise ship - but was told "You don't want to do that. It's just a glorified cleaner. All you'd be doing is cleaning toilets and making beds. You want to learn to type and get yourself a nice little office job"
3. an artist - but was told "You don't want to do that. You'd never make any money. You'd always be skint. You want to learn to type and get yourself a nice little office job"
4. own a market garden - nothing was said about that, curiously. I think they'd just stopped listening to me by that age.
What do you do for work now?
Ish stuff. Look after LO, grow food, make food, that sort of stuff. I don't work for money
Who introduced you to Selfsufficientish thinking?
Lived next door to a market garden when I was 10-12 years old and that's when I found out where food came from. Went to work there on Saturdays in my teens. Loved it
What was the first thing you ever planted?
I found some funny spikey things sticking out of the top of some French marigolds. I don't know why I did it, but I pulled them out and poked them into the compost. Guess what! They grew into more French marigolds. I really wasn't expecting that.
What was the first food you ever caught to eat?
Never done that
What was the first thing you ever dismantled?
Can't think of anything
What is under your bed?
Odd socks, fluff and dust. Probably some of Katie's toys.
What is on your mouse pad?
Nothing. It's plain black.
What scares you?
Myself usually I get trapped wind and become convinced I'm having a heart attack.
What gave you your last big belly-laugh?
Bill Bailey last night doing his orchestra show. Can't remember what it was called but I know some of you have seen it. Belly laughs come easy to me. I over-react to the slightest thing.
What is the first thing you see when you walk out your back door?
The brick wall of the shed.
What did you eat for tea last night?
home-made pizza
What charity/ies do you support?
currently none while we get our finances sorted, but I have supported WWF, PDSA, RSPCA, Samaritans and the local Development Education Centre
What is your least favourite chore/job around the house?
vacuuming
If you were to be banished to an island for 2 years, and could take one person with you, Who would you take and why?
my OH. He's the only one who could put up with me for that long
What was the last CD that you bought?
Kate Bush - Aerial
What was the last gift you were given that you really didn't want? And what did you do with it?
a chuck-ugly clock
What is the most annoying thing you do (according to your mate/mum/kid/neighbour etc.)?
According to OH:
1. I've always got to be doing something and don't know how to relax,
2. I always criticize everything I do
3. I ask to be told about things but when someone does tell me I forget all about it and make other plans
4. I don't think he dare give me any more
What is your favourite drink?
Red wine
Where is your favourite place in the whole wide world?
I have two equally favourite places. The allotment, early evening when there's no-one else there, and at home, on the settee with OH and a glass of wine late evening
