Why am I not surprised?
I have a friend - a full time artist - who had to get in touch with the person who bought her second hand dining table& chairs, in order to get a receipt to prove she hadn't sold a painting!
Income? - about £12.000 pa.
Makes you wonder!
I have to keep SUCH meticulous accounts - its easier to chase the ordinary person!
Will stop now - I'm getting cross. :cussing:

And I took the one less travelled by
And that has made all the difference.

I used to work for a company owned by another successful company... the company I worked for was set up to make a loss so he could write off some of the tax on the successful company. Not sure how it all works but he save ALOT of cash that's for sure!

But then do you really think the rich who are in power are going to go after the rich? Not in this lifetime!

I don't buy newspapers but this one would be worth following up because if the gaurdian names names then we as consumers should do our bit to help reduce their profits by boycouting them.

Dear Big Al,

Guardian today publishes the names of three on its list:-

Glaxo Kline Smith, Astra Zeneca and Shell.

Don't really think they're going to notice that I'm boycotting them as I can't think of anytime in the past that I've bought anything from them!

Another good idea bites the dust!

Having worked in that area I can confirm that there are specialist accountancy firms whose sole job is to look at the tax legislation and find all the tortuous little loopholes that the drafters missed. As fast as the loopholes are plugged they find a few more. Those big companies obviously have some really clever ones in their corner. Unfortunately it's called avoidance (all totally legal).

On the other hand, evasion (the illegal under-reporting of income) is so much more easy for the Inspectors to spot once they get their hands on a small business's books. The tiniest innocent or even not quite so innocent error almost jumps out at them if they look properly and unfortunately, as they have to work to targets, they will make a case out of it and go for the extra tax, interest, penalties, etc, etc. It's all very unfair but with the rules as they are it's a fact of life.
Growing old is much better then the alternative!
