social workers brought the brother back to the house yesterday to collect some of his belongings.
he seemed well looked after. i had a word with them after he'd gone and they said he was being taken to a local, brand new care home. the only relative he has left is a sister in canada that hasn't seen them for many years so they are currently trying to contact her. i also made sure they knew the name of the vicar who delt with the funeral of the sister that died 2 months ago, as i figured she might have more information.
i knew the family didn't have a phone, but apparently they didn't have a fridge either, which explains why the brother that died would go to the shops each day. when we entered the house that night, it was like walking into a time warp. they have lived there for 30 years and the house looked like something out of a 70's catalogue.

Re: found our neighbour last night
Missy, well done to you & yours for helping out. It's a worry when folk live with a small support system, but it's nice to know that neighbours will step up when needed.
Before we moved out here, our little street was a very tight knit community street & everyone knew everyone. This was mainly because we only had teeny little yards, so we all had container gardens at the front - if you drove into our street on a summer day, you could see folks all on deckchairs in little groups up & down the street!
It was nice - albeit a bit invasive at times, but we kept an eye out for the older folks & they, in turn watched the little ones.
I'll agree with you on one thing mind - DO ask your other neighbour's son for his contact number - just in case....
Good luck for the impending hatch session.... make sure you let us know when it's happened!!
Julie.
