Shoes - (not a particularly female thread)

Post: # 131087Post invisiblepiper »

Pulled on my five year old 'blunnies'* this morning and realised that in terms of cost per wear - they were very good value! Costing around £35 in Tasmania (artist placement) I have worn them at least half the year each tear since then....and still going strong!
Wondered what anyone elses best value footwear was?
As someone mentioned in another thread - the poor cannot afford to buy cheap products!

* Blunnies are 'Blundstone' shoes/boots made in Tasmania - very sturdy and they look like short riding boots with cleated sloes. They cost more in UK - but then you don't have the carbon footprint to Aus! :toothy4:

Doc Martens. Mine lasted over three years - worn virtually every day.

My gals vegan DMs are now about 5. We did get them resoled a couple of years ago but the tops, though a bit scuffed, are still remarkably robust. She doesn't wear hers every day though - they tend to come out when the weather's wet or cold. Some years more than others then!

Aigle wellies. Worn every day for 4 years.

Only bought some new ones recently because the rubber had started to perish - I wouldn't have known except some of the pond started to seep in when I had a paddle. If I didn't have a pond I wouldn't have known and would still be using them!

I have a pair of workboots (red hawk?), steel toe caps, which I've worn for practically everything for the last 7 years or so - except for work, where I wear wellies. Those boots are scuffed, but still basically perfect.

I had DM boots wear out after 1 year and DM shoes after 6 months.... what the heck am I doing to my shoes :?

My scholls (sandals) have lasted 4 summers now, worn everyday that I don't need to wear wellies or walking boots. They are really comfy, once you get used to the wooden soles... plus they are supposed to be good for your posture... and they have classic looks too.

I seem to live in walking boots most of the time, I used to walk between 6 and 15 miles everyday... I love walking... that could explain why all my shoes wear out so quickly.

Now I wouldn't even look at a pair of shoes without gortex in them... bliss, pure dry feet bliss

Actually, now I think of it, I spend much more of my time in slippers these days :(

I bought my DMs second hand well over 3 years ago and they are still going strong. The metallic purple leather has cracked a little (think it's a coated leather type thing. I've worn them and worn them. I love them.

Forget DM's.

Get along to an ex-army shop and buy 2nd hand British Paratrooper boots. These outlast and outcomfort any pair of DM's.

I've had mine for nearly 10 years - and they've had a lot of wear n tear...

Hein Gericke Motorcycle boots still good, worn all day every day for three years, except on slipper days
hmm come to think of it - slippers are mocassins from the market which I've had for well over ten years
I don't own wellies as my feet won't bend into them - instead I have a pair of 'Muckers' (short horse riding boots with rubber foot and nylon top)

I've got a fantastic pair of Caterpillars that I've worn at least half the year since I bought them in February 2001. I wear them with jeans, I wear them with trousers, I wear them to go out and I wear them to scrub out the chickens. They're fantastic!

My old army boots. Issued when I was 18 and lasted until two years ago. Almost 25 years, although with several replacements of soles, some re-stitching and assorted new inner soles. They must have walked tens of thousands of miles across 10 countries and through all terrains in all weathers.
