HFWs back!
I watched River Cottage Autumn last night. Really enjoyed it. There's a bit of campaigning to come but it seems he's not quite so high on his soapbox this series.

He used to annoy me - but I really like him now!
Missed it last night
Will remember to record it next week.
There's also the occasional article by him in Country Living Magazine - if you are in the dentists...

Re: HFWs back!
My Love for HFW is waining somewhat these days.
I think that he did great things at the original River Cottage site and his downsizing was very successful but now I feel that he is no longer downsizing but resizing (?) everything is getting bigger again and more complicated, becoming more of a large business enterprise with loads of merch etc.
Maybe its not necessarily a bad thing but I preferred it when he was running around on his own doing farmers markets and things.
(although I have been to park farm for the Autumn fair and its lovely!)

I went right off him during his chicken campaign, and I know what you mean about re-sizing. I can't help it though, still have a little soft spot even though I neither want, or need his lifestyle any more.

Re: HFWs back!
I've been told that I am married to the 6footer HFW. He caused a bit of panic once when we went out for a family birthday dinner in his corderoy jacket and slacks, people kept peeping at him through the kitchen door!
The winter beardage has helped put pay to that one a little bit now though.

Re: HFWs back!
I am such a fan of HFW!!!
Absolutely loved him in the origional River Cottage series.
However I am not such a fan of what he is doing now, its all very commercial. I also noticed that he was encouraging the family from Bristol or wherever to see their stuff to make a little business. I didnt like this at all. What is wrong with stopping at being self sufficient, why do we then need to try to make shed loads of money from it. It rather smacks of capitalism I think.
Hvaing said that I still love him and always watch him on the telly!

We love him, although i have to agree that it is all getting a bit big, he seems to have forgotten about the simple life.

I'm enjoying this series more than the last one, evidenced by the fact I am remembering to watch it! Liked the foraging one. Wish I had some rich benefactor to come along and say "I'll give you half the money to set up...whatever" I'd make more of an effort to get on with stuff!

Re: HFWs back!
As we can only get BBC 1 & 2 over here, I'd never seen HFW until the day before yesterday. But his name and his series and books keep being mentioned on the sites I like to read, so I got myself a DVD box of the River Cottage series. I've watched the first (escape to...) and it was all right. But (in my opinion) there's not enough detail on anything to be really useful as a how-to nor enough depth to be truly convincing as a personal journal of the downsizing process. I'm probably more of a book person.
And nevertheless I'm immensely pleased to actually know whom you're all talking about

Re: HFWs back!
yeh i think the orginal river cottage series were more inspirational than informative.. but he did inspire a lot of people.
