Do you sit up late on the interweb?

Post: # 262785Post marshlander »

I find myself reading interesting stuff absolutely unconnected with whatever I went on the net for in the first place. I then realise that hours have passed and even the dog has given up and gone to bed!

Yes - often.

I'd like to say that it's so I can listen to the dawn chorus - which I often do - but it's simply insomnia.

And yes - it's when I find some weird and wonderful sites, too.

I've found my internet use to be declining of late. This is the only forum I visit - I used to look at four; I've more-or-less stopped reading (& writing) blogs and I no longer surf away into the weird & wonderful. I still use it for work and for looking up things.

Partly this is because it is summer and I'm outside a lot and partly because I hit upon the half-baked idea that I might be getting over-stimulated (ooh-er Madame) in the brain area due to excess screen time and it might actually be contributing to my insomnia. So I started reading books instead before going to bed (actual paper ones - a Kindle would just be another screen) and, so far, big improvement.

Other way round here. I still surf in the middle of the night but on the occasions I can't sleep I'm up early (02.00 onwards).

definitely............

I was even sent an article recently via email ( havent dared read it) suggesting that over use of internet is linked to increase in depression!

I think the biggest danger ( especially for the younger ones) is that there is also a load of totally incorrect info on the net, and some find 1 site, and take it as gospel. I did even think of strrting a blog about this. ( the internet -the new bible)

having said that......... I couldnt do without it!

That would make a lot of sense. YouTube comments in particular often make me want to go on some kind of killing spree...

Same here,on both counts.I got sick of televsion years ago,and largely the flickering screen has done for me now as well. The kids need it for homework, otherwise I'd bin it and just use the free one in the library when I had to. I like this forum, but it's a one-off, as for the social networking guff?...when I talk to my ''friends'' I like to share a drink with them.

Chance would be a fine thing. If I don't switch the laptop off by 9 then I'll just fall asleep over it. If I switch it off and put it away then I just fall asleep in front of the TV instead. Whichever way, I'm asleep by 9.

I used to read a lot of the news sites as well, but now I just take a quick look at the Guardian and Le Monde. Pretty much all of the rest are becoming unreadable, not least because of the slack-brained reader comments and blogs they insist on publishing instead of doing any proper journalism.
