What colour is your front door?

Post: # 245149Post Graye »

I only ask because I have just had to repaint ours. The only colour we had is a very shiny black gloss so that's what it is now. It WAS a dark woodstain but there was an horrendous soft metal lion's head "thingie" on it which we couldn't stand looking at any more and which left a horrible mark when it was prised off. Not one of the jobs on my million mile long list of "things we must do immediately" but it looked really silly otherwise.

As I was brushing away I thought about what door colour has to say about people, hence the question...

White - merely because it's one of those high-security plastic jobbies.

I hate our front door! It's sort of long glass pannels with dark brown stained wood between. Yuck! I want a new one like the Edwardian style/council house with the 6 small panes of glass at the top and painted either Buckingham Green or purple!

The front door of this rented house is a dark woodstain......with leaky bits.........and a big single glass panel in it. I'd love one that is all one piece with a spy hole so I can hide behind it and wouldn't have to answer it if I didn't like who's there.

Currently French Navy blue, but soon to be a dark red, when I fianlly figure out the best way to strip it back to bare wood (needs doing as the old wood is about 7 layers deep and is bubbling and cracked)

Oak stained wood with 3 leaded glass panels, gothic style. We gave up with the draughty multi paint layered door made of large patches of filler. It looks very nice but shows up the rest of the house!

White - with windows - and various stickers. 'Age of Aquarius'- 'Friend of the Earth'-'Beware of the Greyhound'.

Currently clear varnish on old oak, but is a little waterstained. Once I have squared it with the landlady, I will pait it heritage green. For those not as poncy as I am, this is a gorgeous creamy pale green colour and it is everwhere up here in the cotswolds because it looks great with sandstone.

But, just like my haircut and shoes, this is probably just one other indicator of my personality which is shabby and scruffy and is giving off bad first impressions all over the place!

Ours is a big old 6 panelled one, which was brown when we moved in, but is now a gorgeous bright red.

I've got the sort of front door Milims would like, and it is painted French navy with a lovely French enamel number plate. Unfortunately I can't take the credit as my daughter did it, and it's lovely! pbf.
